ABOUT US - THE MISSION
Get on Board has a mission - to create a safe space for young people to get involved in skateboarding, a sport that is on the rise and is becoming recognised for its wide range of benefits and contribution to positive physical, social and emotional wellbeing.
Emily’s skateboarding journey began at age 7, when she taught herself the basics and practiced in her garden. But that’s where the story paused — she didn’t have access to an indoor skatepark, a community of like-minded friends, or a coach to help her progress.
At 16, Emily picked up her board again — this time with more determination. When she started skating at DSC (then known as Twisted) in 2021, she noticed something missing: structured coaching and support for young skaters. She remembered the opportunities she never had and made the decision to be the change.
Emily finished university with a 2.1 in PE with Outdoor Education, completed the Skateboard GB Coaching Qualification, First Aid, Safeguarding training, has a enhanced DBS check and became Doncaster’s first and only qualified skateboarding coach in 2021.
In 2023, Emily set up a Community Intrest Company called 'GetonBoardYorkshireCIC' with the intention to support those in deprived areas, to access the services at a reduced rate.
Now, nearly five years on, she has taught thousands of young people how to skateboard and has collaborated with organisations to run engaging holiday camps. She has also delivered After School Clubs at local primary schools helping to bring the joy and benefits of skateboarding directly into local communities.
Emily’s mission is to create a space where young people feel safe, supported, and truly seen.
She’s passionate about giving them the opportunity to experience the full impact of learning to skateboard — not just the skill itself, but the mental, physical, social, and emotional benefits that come with it.
Through her coaching, Emily is inspiring a new generation of riders to grow, connect, and thrive — both on and off the board.
Emily has created a community of young skateboarders at DSC and you are one step away from being apart of it.
